Cicely L. Tyson was born in New York, New York on December 19th, 1933. Tyson was everything from a fashion model, actress, activist, and many many more. She has starred in movies such as The Help, For Colored Girls, and The Color Purple. She was the first African-American woman to win a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Mini-Series or Movies.

Vinnette Justine Carroll was born on March 11th, 1992 in New York City. When she was three her family moved to Jamaica. In 1948 she moved back to New York and studied theater at Erwin Piscator's Dramatic Workshop which was held in The New School For Social Research. In 1972, she became the first African-American woman to direct on Broadway with her musical Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope. She died of heart disease and diabetes in Lauderhill,Florida on November 5th, 2002

Freda Josephine McDonald was born on June 3rd, 1906 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a very talented dancer and the first African-American woman to star in a major motion picture. She played Zouzou in Zou-Zou. Baker died on April 12th, 1975 in Paris, France.

The Shirelles is the first African-American girl group. This group consisted of Addie Harris, Shirley Owens, Beverly Lee, and Doris Coley. Founded in 1957 by Tiara Records, The Shirelles released there first hit song I Met Him On Sunday. The group was later sold to Decca Records, Scepter Records, Bell Records, then RCA Records. The group ended in 1982.
