Vinnette Justine Carroll was born on March 11th, 1992 in New York City. When she was three her family moved to Jamaica. In 1948 she moved back to New York and studied theater at Erwin Piscator's Dramatic Workshop which was held in The New School For Social Research. In 1972, she became the first African-American woman to direct on Broadway with her musical Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope. She died of heart disease and diabetes in Lauderhill,Florida on November 5th, 2002
