Mae Carol Jemison was born on October 17th, 1956. Jemison was the first African American woman to go to space. When Jemison was a child she always thought Science was gross and when she grew up she grew to love science so much that she went to college to be an Astronaut. Thanks to her we have many African-American scientist and astronauts.
