Charles Sidney Gilpin

Today's Mini-Bio is on Charles Sidney Gilpin

Charles Sidney Gilpin was born on November 20th, 1878 in Richmond, Virginia. At age 18 he stared in a minstrel show ( a show were white people usually played in blackface and black people usually played in whiteface). When Gilpin picked up acting he got the role of a Brutus Jones. He was the first African-American to be featured on Broadway. One of his most noted performances was in 1916 where he played a white slave owner. Gilpin died on May 6th, 1930.
